New Mickey Mouse Short “Get A Horse!”

Get A Horse!

For those who go to see “Frozen” when it debuts on the big screen November 27, 2013, you are in for a treat.  The new Mickey short “Get A Horse!” will be shown before the feature film in 3D.

So what makes this short different than any others that are out there?  It is the first original Mickey Mouse theatrical animated short since 1995’s “Runaway Brain”.  This short also is coming out just a few weeks after Mickey’s 85th birthday.  The director, Lauren MacMullen, is fond of the earliest Mickey Mouse shorts, mostly because of their simplicity and freshness.  She decided for a style resembling the 1928 animation.  It took 18 months to produce the short.  It features both hand-drawn animation and computer animation.  To achieve the 1928 look, ageing and blur filters were added to the image, while for the CG part, they created new models, faithful to character designs of 1928.

The most exciting part of this short is that Walt Disney himself is voicing Mickey Mouse.  Yes that’s right, the man who originally voiced the mouse is back.  The short features archival voice recordings of Walt Disney as Mickey Mouse.

The plot for “Get a Horse!” follows Mickey, his love Minnie Mouse and some very old friends Horace Horsecollar and Clarabelle Cow as they delight in a musical wagon ride.  Mickey’s foe Peg-Leg Pete shows up and tries to run them off the road. Disney released these stills from the short. Click on them to enlarge.
