“Welcome to the Splendor, the spectacle, the sparkling sensation, where the romance, the comedy and the thrill of Disney fantasies come to electric life… And now the Magic Kingdom proudly presents in a million points of musical light, the magical worlds of Disney in SpectroMagic!” ~ Jiminy Cricket
We reported last week, that there were some pretty reliable rumors floating around that Disney’s Spectromagic Parade was not going to be returning. The word was that pieces of the beloved floats were seen in dumpsters, and that the parade was done. Well, sources are saying today, that this is indeed true, and that Spectromagic is officially “retired.”
Spectromagic made it’s debut back in October of 1991. I know for a lot of Disney fans, the Main Street Electrical Parade was the parade that brought up nostalgia, and memories from childhood. For me, it was Spectromagic. It seems like whenever I went to Disney, it was Spectro that was running at the Magic Kingdom. I remembered it much more than the MSEP. When I had my boys, and started taking them to Disney, it was Spectromagic that was the first parade that they got to see. Andrew went in 2002 for the first time, and Aidan went in 2005. They were babies, but to me, seeing the look on their faces was something I won’t ever forget.
In addition to the beautiful lights and floats that Spectromagic provided, there was the music. Oh the music! For some reason, the soundtrack for Spectro just stuck in my head for days each time I saw and heard it. Even after we went home from vacation, I still had the music in my head. I can hear it now! I remember going to the Disney Outlet store in Orlando, and they were playing the Spectro music there too. It was everywhere…… and very catchy!
The last time we saw Spectromagic at the Magic Kingdom was in September of 2009. Spectro’s last performance was in June of 2010, so by the time we went back in 2011, the MSEP was already there in it’s place. I had always heard that Spectromagic was coming back to the MK, and hoped it was true. I’m sad to hear that it’s over. It’s not because I don’t like the Electrical Parade. I do like that also. I think it’s because of the memories that Spectromagic has for me, probably because of the boys. There are just certain things that happen, certain memories that stand out, and they end up holding a special place in our hearts. I’m so happy that I got to enjoy Spectromagic with my family. I’m so thankful that I took a lot of pictures too. I wish I would have known that back in 2009, it would be our final viewing of our beloved Spectromagic. Maybe we could have taken more pictures, video, or taken in the sights even more-so than usual. I know I would have cried though. I usually cry at the parades and “Wishes” on our final night at the Magic Kingdom regardless. This would have been different though. It could have been a “goodbye” for us.
Even though Spectromagic is gone, the memories will always remain. I won’t ever forget how beautiful and magical Spectromagic was. It will always be a huge part of my Disney memories, and hold a special place in my heart.
Spectromagic Lyrics…..
[Children’s’ Voices]
Music surrounds us
Laughter that found us
Twirling around this
Carousel of light and laughter!
We shall remember
This moment together
Let this night forever
Live in our dreams!
[All/Adult Voices]
On this magic night,
A million stars will play beside us,
A special spell of light,
Glimmering, shimmering, carousel-ling
‘Round the world tonight,
A symphony in SpectroMagic.
Pure enchantment lights our way!
[Children’s’ Voices]
Music surrounds us
Magic around us
Twirling around us
Carousel of light and laughter!
Though we say goodbye
We cast a spell that won’t be broken
Let this night forever
Live in our dreams!
[Jiminy Cricket]
So long! Se ya later!
[All/Adult Voices:]
On this magic night,
A million stars will play beside us,
A special spell of light,
Glimmering, shimmering, carousel-ling
‘Round the world tonight,
A symphony in SpectroMagic.
Pure enchantment lights our way!
[Jiminy Cricket]
So long! I’m Jiminy Cricket…in SpectroMagic!

I heard the floats had termites so they had to get rid of them. I wrote a very lengthy response to the Facebook post, so I will keep it short here. This just makes me VERY sad!
