Disney announced today that construction has begun on their newest castle, “Enchanted Storybook Castle”. This Castle will be the center piece to Shanghai Disneyland set to open in December 2015. Of all the other Castles, Enchanted Storybook Castle will be the most interactive of all and the tallest.
The new Castle will include entertainment, dining and space for performances. In the heart of this new centerpiece will be a magnificent winding staircase that will lead guests on a “Once Upon a Time Adventure,” featuring the Disney Princesses. The Castle will also have a boat ride with a secret underground chamber. The chamber will have fountains of light that will leap and dance in shimmering pools.
This is the 2nd Disneyland in China with the other one being Hong Kong Disneyland. The first phase of construction will feature a Magic Kingdom-style park, Shanghai Disneyland Park, an entertainment district, two themed hotels, recreational facilities, a lake and associated parking and transportation hubs. There will be additional phases which will include two additional theme parks at the resort. The total area will cover 963 acres in Pudong, Shanghai which will make this park approximately 3 times the size of the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
